ATTENTION FOSTER PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS:

Nick Konner, Program Director for the Foster and Kinship Care Education Program of MJC, will be offering a two-day online Distance Learning workshop as well as other exceptional training's to foster parents in the month of August..

The workshop will offer an overview of strategies for helping children learn at home. Participants will learn techniques to teach children of varying ages how to be self-driven and motivated. Participants will discover how to facilitate group learning for more than one child and develop scheduling and learning routines to help their family make it through the day. The class will also cover how to help children maintain a learning schedule, reduce distractibility, and be self-starters.

All classes are FREE. Although our target audience is resource and adoptive parents, our classes are open to everyone in the community including social workers, group home staff, family, and friends.

The foster care system is a temporary arrangement in which adults provide for the care of a child or children whose birth parent is unable to care for them.

When a child is in foster care this can affect his/her education due to circumstances beyond his or her control. By providing on-site services, students will have increased opportunities for success.

The foster youth liaison works with each foster youth student attending CUSD providing the following support:

  • Locate student records, transcripts/credits, IEPs, Ed rights holder, and other necessary information.
  • Monitors students attendance, grades, behavior
  • Liaison between, group homes, social workers, foster parents, and students.
  • Collaborate with Special Education Program Specialist, Student Support Coordinator, and school site administrators and other CUSD staff.
